eczema update:

A few weeks ago I posted about our battle between our sweet boy and the "trifecta" (allergies, asthma, and eczema). Since then, things have been much better. The steroid helped with a lot of his symptoms, where antibiotics have done nothing. I'm still hearing the normal rattly cough several times a day, but the runny nose, eyes, and ears have been gone for three weeks, and he's managed to not catch anything new, which is huge for us!

His eczema has returned, but seems to be milder, and is contained to just his chest and belly. We have been using Bert's Baby Bee body wash, lotion, and diaper cream, All Free and Clear laundry detergent, Pampers Sensitive wipes, and an Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy soothing bath treatment once a week. I lather him with the lotion morning and night, and use the Aveeno in kitchen sink to make it more concentrated.

We're still trying to figure it all out, but I feel like we're making progress. We are looking into pediatric chiropractors as the next step in clearing up the remaining chest congestion, with hopes of getting him off of the inhalers, and allergy medications as quickly as possible. Thanks for all your advice and encouragement, it means more than you know!

  1. My son had some eczema as well. We also use Burt's bees, aveeno lotion, and detergent without any dye or fragrance. However, his doctor recommended that we first put anti itch cream on him to relieve the itching. Then put his lotion on over that, then to seal it in, I cover him in a product called Aquaphor which is a MIRACLE cream! It worked like a charm and we haven't had any problems since he was three months old! He's now almost 13 months.

  2. I've read Megan at www.inthiswonderfullife.com has her 1 year old twins on a gluten free diet and it has helped/cleared her son's eczema.

  3. My son had awful eczema that was so bad--it bled. We tried prescription creams and every bottle of cream/lotion at the store (or so it seemed) but nothing worked at ALL. Everyone is different, but we found that Neosporin's Eczema Essentials pack worked SO well!! We use the daily body wash and daily moisture lotion on him. His eczema is pretty much gone, except the occasional very minor dry patch when the weather gets really cold.

  4. I agree! Ethan's had some occassional patches of eczema so we use Burt's Bees, Aveeno lotion & All Free & Clear detergent all the time. My husband has really sensitive skin so I think he's going to take after his daddy in that area. I've had to sacrifice my smelly-good Tide detergent I always used because I don't want to buy 2 different kinds.

  5. I too have eczema and pretty much the only thing (short of a steroid) that helps is shea butter as a moisture sealant. I use the healer from Perfectly Posh -- it's THE reason I decided to become a consultant. We also have a vegan line made just for little guys like Elliott. I have had some luck with the Aveeno oatmeal bath and an aquaphor/water potion that my pharmacist mixed up for me. Good luck pal!

  6. Hi! My kiddos are the exact same and we do a lot of things you do! The only thing different is a lather their skin in coconut oil (which is waxy until touches skin) and it works great!! The other lotion we use is cerave. The cream in the round container! Hope that may help! (Carole gave me your blog link to see the cute shower y'all through Laura! Adorable!)
